Brief Information
Why CACTUS

Almost all cacti are succulents, meaning they have thickened, fleshy parts adapted to store water. They owe their success in the desert to their structural adaptations. The cactus plant and in particular the yellow cactus flower symbolises warmth, protection and endurance. In the vast spectrum of the internet, a business is just like a cactus in way of Digital Presence. This means occupying space online. 10 years ago digital presence meant having a web site, today we have social media, mobile, and all forms of online advertising to consider when it comes to creating digital presence and it encompasses so much more than just a web site. Web presence is critical for all industries. In an age where the Internet is such a useful communication tool, lack of a website or online presence can lead potential clients to find similar business elsewhere.

How the world wide web is represented

There are over 1.6 billion websites on the world wide web today. Of these more than 200 million are active. The milestone of 1 billion websites was first reached in September of 2014. The number has subsequently declined, reverting back to a level below 1 billion (due to the monthly fluctuations in the count of inactive websites) before reaching again and stabilizing above the 1 billion mark starting in March of 2016. Watch as it increases.

What is a domain name?

By "Website" this means unique hostname (a name which can be resolved, using a name server, into an IP Address). It must be noted that around 75% of websites today are not active, but parked domains or similar. A domain name can be Top Level Domain (TLD) or can be registered via country code domain (ccTLD). Domain names no longer in use by the registrant or expired are taken back by the registry and the residual traffic is sold to advertising networks.

Number of internet users

Around 40% of the world population has an internet connection today. In 1995, it was less than 1%. The number of internet users has increased tenfold from 1999 to 2013. The first billion was reached in 2005. The second billion in 2010. The third billion in 2014 and the fourth billion in 2018. An internet user is defined as an individual who has access to the internet at home, via computer or mobile device.
